Our History

The North Eastern Horse and Pony Club's history reflects the enduring passion for equestrian sports within our community. Founded in 1951, NEHPC began as a small group of horse enthusiasts who shared a vision of creating a supportive environment where members could come together to learn, train, and grow.

From its humble beginnings, and various original locations, the club became a cornerstone of the local equestrian scene, offering a variety of activities and events that catered to both seasoned riders and newcomers alike. In 1986, the club took a significant step forward by introducing the Riders Without Horses program, a pioneering initiative designed to open the world of horsemanship to children who did not have access to a horse of their own. This program has since become a hallmark of NEHPC, helping countless young riders develop confidence, responsibility, and a deep love for horses.

Over the decades, NEHPC has evolved to meet the changing needs of its members, expanding its facilities and programs to include three fully lit arenas, a challenging cross-country course, and comprehensive kitchen facilities for hosting events. Despite these changes, the club has remained true to its founding principles of inclusivity, community, and a commitment to fostering a lifelong love of horses.

Today, NEHPC continues to thrive as a vibrant hub for equestrian activity in the north-east Melbourne region. Our history is one of growth, adaptation, and unwavering dedication to the values that have guided us from the very beginning. As we look to the future, we remain committed to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all who share our passion for horses.
